Overview

Wrinkles on the forehead, frown lines, and drooping eyebrows can be surgically corrected in Houston, TX by a brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, performed by triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Henry Mentz. Signs of aging on the upper face, like sagging skin on the forehead, tend to make people look older and sometimes even angry or worried. By elevating the brow’s lateral component, Dr. Mentz rejuvenates the eyes and upper lids for a more youthful, refreshed appearance. Vertical lines located between the brows, or those that are stretched across the forehead, are also smoothed out. The sagging appearance of folds between the lids and brows is improved. “Crow’s feet” are minimized from the corner of the eyes.

Surgical Technique

The brow lift, which is an outpatient procedure at an accredited surgical facility, typically takes 1 – 2 hours with the patient under general or local anesthesia. Dr. Mentz’s endoscopic brow lift is a minimally invasive procedure requiring very small incisions within the hairline. The endoscope’s small video camera allows him to view the internal structures of the forehead without requiring a long incision commonly used in other brow lift methods. He can then reposition the skin and underlying tissues of the forehead to smooth away expression lines and gently elevate the brows to give the face a youthful, refreshed appearance. This technique results in incisions that are smaller than the incisions associated to other brow lift techniques.

Recovery

After a brow lift, patients should expect to have bruising, swelling, and numbness for 4 – 5 days. After a brow lift, the patient should return in 5 – 10 days to have their stitches removed and their recovery progress checked. Most patient return to work and normal activities within 1 – 3 weeks and can resume exercise about 4 weeks after their surgery. Advanced technology has made endoscopic brow lifts a relatively simple procedure, but the results of the procedure last 5 – 10 years longer than other brow lift methods.

Brow Lift FAQs

Heavy Brows?

Many patients come to Dr. Mentz complaining of a heavy brow. What they’re actually seeing is their brow descending lower on their face, causing the face to look tired or worried. Females especially don’t like this change, because a prominent brow is considered a masculine characteristic. A low brow can also cast a shadow over your eyes, making your eyes look darker and tired.

Furrowed Brows?

Lines in the forehead are the earliest signs of aging. The facial expression of raising the eyebrows causes these creases. As the skin ages, the elastic fibers lose the ability to retract, so the creases stay long after the expression fades. A brow lift focuses on minimizing or erasing these lines.

Combining Face Surgeries?

Alone, the brow lift has a great impact, but Dr. Mentz often performs brow lifts in conjunction with skin resurfacing, a facelift, and/or eyelid surgery. During your consultation, Dr. Mentz will listen to your needs and concerns and then explain the best procedures to meet your goals. Together, you and Dr. Mentz will create your best treatment plan.

Nonsurgical Options?

If you’re just seeing the beginning of fines lines, you can likely prevent these from becoming deep wrinkles with injectable wrinkle treatments, like BOTOX and Juvéderm. Family Nurse Practitioner Renee Arriaga in the ACPS MedSpa can help you decide if you’re a good candidate for cosmetic injections. Laser resurfacing and microdermabrasion can also greatly improve the appearance of deep wrinkles in the brow.
