Many Houston area patients of triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Henry Mentz feel that they are in need of facial rejuvenation but aren’t quite ready for a full facelift. With advancements in technology and training, the mini facelift has become a better option for patients like these that are seeing the beginning signs of aging, but are not looking for dramatic results. Often called a weekend lift or weekend facelift, some of the appealing factors of the mini facelift include the shorter procedure and healing time, as well as its subtle results. The mini facelift lifts the cutaneous layer (skin layer) in specific areas of the mid and lower face. This is different from a full facelift in that it does not lift the underlying tissue. A mini facelift removes fine lines on the neck and face and treats mid-face skin laxity. Weekend lifts can be combined with other procedures such as a brow lift, fat graft, or skin resurfacing treatment to maximize results.

Mini facelifts can take anywhere from 1-2 hours. An incision approximately 2/3 the length of a traditional facelift is made, typically in front of the ears. The surgeon will then separate the skin from the fat and muscle below. Fat may be removed from around the jowls and chin to improve the contour. Afterwards, the surgeon tightens the underlying muscle and soft tissue, pulls the skin back, and removes the excess. The layers of tissue are secured with stitches. Following surgery, a thin tube may be placed under the skin to drain any blood collected in that area.
Because the incisions are small, scarring is minimal and infection is rare. Recovery can take up to 2 weeks following surgery. Most patients are able to return to work within 1-2 weeks after their mini facelift procedure. The MedSpa at ACPS and home recovery nurses are available to guide you through your healing process and provide all the tools you need to recover quickly.

Mini Facelift FAQs
The mini facelift method is ideal for patients who have a youthful neck but are showing signs of skin laxity and mild deep tissue sagging. These patients may feel that they are in need of facial rejuvenation but aren’t quite ready for a full facelift.
Mini Facelift Limitations?
Mini facelifts can help to remove fine lines on the neck and face with shorter recovery time, but cannot accomplish the drastic results seen by a full facelift. It cannot correct lines or wrinkles around the eyes and forehead. Because it does not use incisions around the hairline from which the skin of the forehead can be lifted, the mini facelift doesn’t target the upper portions of the face.
Sometimes, Dr. Mentz will utilize SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) plication sutures to tighten the deep layers during a mini facelift. This procedure can be done with a neck lift as well for additional improvement.
Choosing Your Facelift?
If you’re considering a facelift to correct lines in the neck and lower regions of the face, schedule a consultation with Dr. Mentz to discuss the mini facelift or weekend lift. You may be able to achieve the results you want with a less intensive procedure and quicker recovery time.
