Overview
In 2007, triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Henry Mentz recognized a problem with the way facelifts were being performed by most plastic surgeons. Rather than customizing the procedure based on the individual patients wants and needs, facelifts were all performed the same way. In response to this cookie-cutter method, Dr. Mentz set out to create a method for customizing each facelift. He carefully measured, graded and recorded the amount of laxity in each area of the face to determine which facelift method would achieve the best results. Dr. Mentz works with patients to address all of the aging areas on the face for comprehensive, natural-looking facial restoration. In addition to lifting the skin and tissue of the mid and lower face, he may also suggest a brow lift or neck lift, depending on the patient’s wants and needs. These can be done in one surgery, and Dr. Mentz will present a full procedural plan based on your individual areas of concern and desired results.

Surgical Technique
A facelift procedure is designed to restore a more youthful, refreshed appearance to the face by correcting the visible signs of aging that occur as a result of diminished skin elasticity, collagen production, volume, and skin quality. This comprehensive procedure is considered one of the most effective and long-lasting solutions to return a smoother, rejuvenated and uplifted look to the face through correction of the following characteristics:
- Sagging in the midface that can cause the appearance of jowls
- Deep creases along the nose that extend to the corners of the mouth
- Deep creases below the lower eyelids
- Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin which can cause the appearance of a double chin
Recovery
The length of your recovery will depend on which facelift technique is used, but most facelifts require a recovery period of 2-4 weeks. Bruising, swelling, and pain will usually subside in 1-2 weeks so you can return to work. Our Added Touch MedSpa offers a complimentary hair wash to all facelift patients the morning following surgery (excludes Friday surgeries) since it will be difficult to wash your own hair for the first few days.

Facelift FAQs
Best Candidates?
If you are in good health, have reasonable expectations and have concerns about the appearance of your face, then chances are you are a strong candidate for the procedure. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Mentz to determine whether or not a facelift is the right procedure for you.
Will I Have Scars?
Because the incisions are typically in or near the hairline, scarring is minimized and concealed. If you are also having eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), a neck lift or a brow lift (browplasty) – and scarring is a concern of yours – be sure to discuss this with Dr. Mentz prior to surgery.
Your Best Facelift?
Through computer imaging and the consultation process, the various methods, which include the mini facelift, MACS lift, deep layer, multilayer, and SMAS facelift, can be demonstrated on the patient’s image to evaluate the best options for a patient. Dr. Mentz has consistently found that three options can be determined for each patient, and, of these, one will most effectively maximize the rejuvenating results that can be achieved.
With Other Face Surgeries?
To maximize rejuvenation results, patients often choose to have a facelift procedure in conjunction with both surgical and non-surgical procedures which may include a neck lift, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), an endoscopic brow lift, stem cell-enriched fat grafting, nose surgery, and laser resurfacing, which reduces fine wrinkles and improves the skin’s tone and texture. During your consultation with Dr. Mentz, he will comprehensively evaluate the degree of laxity of each area of your face in order to recommend the procedure or combination of procedures that will help you to achieve the most youthful and natural appearance.
